Gas Prices Low or High, Try a Staycation

The price of gas has been up and down. We’re all getting accustomed to it these days. But just because gas prices are lower again now doesn’t lead to the conclusion that that we should return to our old wasteful ways. When prices were so high last year, lots of families were introduced to the thought of saving by having a “staycation.” This is a made-up word that simply means staying at home and making a serious effort to appreciate and take advantage of whatever the local area has to offer. It’s a home vacation for the family.

If you’re planning a staycation this year, you’re in the just the best place already – right at home! How do you get the most benefit out of your staycation? The places you can try for enjoying your time”away,” naturally, will depend on where you are. How would a traveler find out about your attractions? Think about it, and do just that. Try going online and then google your town. Ask questions at the Chamber. Find a family that’s new in town and ask them what they like to do.

Once you settle on things to do, here are some other tips to take advantage of your special time.

Do regular “vacation” activities. Be sure to take lots of pictures of your adventures, have dessert, stay up past bedtime and sleep in late (if the kids will let that happen), and break some of your normal family rules. It will be a great experience for your whole family, like any other type of vacation.

Turn off your phone and computer (especially if it’s connected to your work). Pretend you are unreachable on a boat off the coast of Acapulco.

Prepare your home just as you would if you were really going away from on a traditional vacation. No one likes to come home to a messy house and old piles of dirty clothes, so treat a staycation the same. Do all your laundry, clean the house, and get errands taken care of ahead of time before you begin so you will not have to fill your time off with housework and the like.

So that’s our list of ideas from here about taking a staycation. It can be the best way to get away. On the other hand, if you want to consider moving and want to check out some ideas on about preparing your home for sale, take a look at Linda’s articles.
